Introducing our new Office Assistant!

Thanks to your continued support, we’re growing! Our new Office Assistant, Brittany, has been hard at work since January of this year. Brittany is a Social Work major at Central New Mexico Community College and a single parent. She first came to our attention through her work two years ago as a volunteer with Equality New Mexico for her introductory class in Social Work and then as one of our own volunteer drivers. In addition to coordinating our volunteers and keeping our office running smoothly day-to-day, Brittany attended and testified at two committee hearings during the legislative session. Here’s her testimony opposing HB 391, which would have forced minors to notify their parents before accessing an abortion.

“As a Catholic for Choice, I can say that the three NM Bishops do not speak for me and the rest of New Mexico Catholics who support safe reproductive health care for all. We urge you to oppose HB 391 and any legislation that restricts safe reproductive health care access for young women. Such extreme legislation blocks a young woman’s access to safe health care options and unjustly denies her freedom to share her decisions with adults she trusts according to her own beliefs and conscience. Instead, we ask that you show compassion for women and families, no matter their circumstances and respect for every individual’s religious liberty.”
